You can tell a lot about a business from the condition of the business’ bathrooms.
Last week I was at McCormick Place in Chicago for the ASI (Advertising Specialty Institute) Show. This is the big summer show that usually ramps up for the holidays. Always enjoy seeing what’s new. And this year, I also saw something new at the convention center.
After I park, I usually hit the restroom before hitting the show floor. This year I was surprised to see a sign on the wall instructing visitors how to alert the facility management that the bathroom needed cleaning or other attention. (See photo.) It definitely did need attention when I was in there. So I thought I’d give it a try and see if there were any results later. I immediately received a reply text confirming that my alert had been received.
After ending my visit of the show floor, I stopped by the same restroom and the problem had been resolved. Now whether this was due to a regularly scheduled maintenance stop or as a result of my text, I don’t know. But I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt, especially since they deserve kudos for making strides towards better customer service through mobile texting.
The only thing that I think would be a great addition to this program is the inclusion of a QR code that would automatically alert the management. Actually, they should include both the texting and the QR code to cover smartphones and phones that are trying to get smarter.
