Billed as a “global celebration of gratitude and giving that honors inspirational changemakers who create hope in our world,” the #EpicThanks 2010 Thanksgiving event‘s main goal was to take over the web with a flood of gratitude. As part of the celebrations, Heidi Thorne, founder of Thorne Communications and the PromoWithPurposeToday.com blog, posted a video greeting on YouTube, using the #EpicThanks hashtag. Used as an organizing and trending tool on Twitter, a hashtag (word preceded by a “#” in a tweet) is similar to keywords in web search.
In the video, Heidi thanks several of her networking communities, both online and offline, including #sobcon (community of Successful Online Business thought leaders), #eventprofs (community of tradeshow and event professionals), and #ephh (a subgroup of the #eventprofs community using video chat to network). She also thanked the Carol Stream Chamber of Commerce, of which she is a member and on the Member Promotion Committee, and the Friends of DuPage Animal Care & Control, a foundation which supports the county’s only open admission animal shelter caring for more than 5,000 animals each year without the aid of taxpayer dollars.
