What a fun evening this was! Events industry pro and blogger Mike McCurry of Experiant, tradeshow presenter Emilie Barta, and I met at the Weber Grill Restaurant in downtown Chicago while Emilie was here to work the National Restaurant Show at McCormick Place. All of us are members of the #eventprofs community of tradeshow and event professionals on Twitter.
As we’ve talked about in a blog post earlier this year, Twitter: Tweetup is Social Media in 3D, an in-person tweetup is an outgrowth of networking relationships you have begun online. By the time we met, we had already had a great deal of conversation and had lots to talk about.
And, interestingly, as happened with a tweetup earlier this spring, we didn’t have to exchange business cards (although I think I gave one to Mike). Mike and I both commented how we really didn’t need business cards because we already knew how to connect with each other. Yes, I think we are moving into Networking in the “No Business Card” Future of Social Media.
