Do your clients love wine? This personalized gift tote from GiftsImprinted.com helps you give it in style!
Oh darn! You got so busy around the holidays that you didn’t have time to send out gifts to your clients, you know, those folks that keep you in business. Oh well, guess they’ll have to wait until next year. Actually, if you do wait ’til it does become “next year,” you might just score big with your clients. Here’s a story to illustrate.
One of my best friends in the graphic design biz, Scott Kolbe of Sikich Marketing & Design Services, told me about a client holiday gift nightmare that turned into a delightful surprise for everyone. Scott’s company had ordered gifts and there was a problem with getting the order done in time for Christmas. Of course, his company’s initial reaction was frustration and disappointment since clients would receive their gifts in January, well after New Year’s. Luckily, all that melted away when the nice comments from recipients started coming in. Because the gifts were received after the flood of other greetings and gifts, it got a lot more attention and appreciation.
So how if you missed sending for Hanukkah or Christmas, why not consider a New Year’s surprise?
On the opposite side of the gift giving spectrum, you might also want to consider giving holiday gifts early, like before Thanksgiving. I traditionally give my advertising clients their gifts just before or during the week of Thanksgiving. They’ll be able to share the goodies with family while celebrating Turkey Day or while decorating for the holidays that weekend.
Timing can be an important part of your promotional gift giving strategy. But always remember to show your appreciation… better late (or early) than never.

Heidi – Another great post. I think New Year is a great time to be celebrating with clients in some form. Christmas just gets way too busy and after all it’s best to be remembered. Stand out every time is good. I like your approach of before Thanksgiving.

You got that right, Paul. Being remembered is what this is all about. I, too, like celebrating the traditionally non-gift holidays with gifts… especially New Year’s when you want people to think about buying from you for the year ahead. Thank you for your kind comments, as always!
