In my opinion, there are two best holidays for promoting your business: Thanksgiving and New Years. Thanksgiving is all about being grateful for what your customers and network bring to your business. New Years is all about looking forward and fresh starts. Yep, I’d like to have my company associated with all of those sentiments!
Very few people promote their companies around New Years. Maybe they just figure that no one is working. I don’t know about you, but that is a very busy time for me. I’m always ramping up new programs. And with selling advertising, I’m always on some sort of deadline. So the week between Christmas and New Years is just business as usual.
So what are some ways to market your business around New Years?
- Send New Years Cards – People aren’t expecting New Years cards. So yours would gain more attention. And with fewer people actually sending physical cards, in general and specifically at this time of year, you could really stand out. It’s okay to send New Years greetings all the way through January. - Send an Annotated Calendar – One segment of my business sells print advertising in a trade newspaper. Advertisers always want to know what deadlines are coming up and where to send their materials. So for many years, I’ve sent calendars or other promotions that highlight upcoming deadlines, either by having the info imprinted on the promotion or by circling due dates on a calendar by hand (people pay attention to handwritten notes!). If your business is deadline driven, this is one of the best ways to promote it. As with New Years cards, it’s okay to send calendars up through the end of January. Don’t miss this opportunity to get your New Year off on a running start! Happy New Year!
